Věhlasný časopis Rolling Stone (KLIK) nás v poslední době zásobuje velkým přívalem informací. Dnes byl zveřejněn velký rozhovor se stage designerem Williem Williamsem, který U2 doprovází od hlubokých 80. let a stál za pódiovým designem takových přelomových tour jako byl Zoo TV Tour, Popmart Tour, Elevation Tour, U2360° Tour.

Prvotní myšlenka zorganizovat koncerty k 30. výročí alba The Joshua Tree vyklíčila během zkoušek na vystoupení v rámci iHeartRadio Festival Dreamforce minulý rok. Uvažovalo se o konceptu jednoho koncertu v USA a jednoho koncertu v Evropě: "When we were doing the show production rehearsals for iHeartRadio [Music Festival] and Dreamforce last year there was talk of doing this, but initially it was just an idea to mark the anniversary and do one or two shows. The idea was maybe one in the US and one in Europe."

Zajímavé je, že Willie byl překvapen z toho, jak vypadá plánek zakreslení pódia, který mají fanoušci k dispozici, když si kupovali lístky. Zdá se, že je stage stále v procesu návrhů: "Oh, is that a commercially available seating chart? [Laughs] Oh, OK, gosh. Yes. If it's on Ticketmaster, I don't mind telling you. We're still kind of working that out, but the shadow of the tree is on the pitch."

U2 a jejich tým určitě použije nahrávky pořízené fotografem Corbijnem během fotoshootingu pro album The Joshua Tree. Nějakého překvapivého odhalení se ale nedočkáme, protože ho tým okolo U2 použil už několikrát a víc toho prostě není: "I'm sure we will, but there isn't very much of it. What there is we have used to death, basically... It's basically just 8 mm movies that Anton [Corbijn] shot when he was doing the album-cover shoot. And we've used them to death [laughs]. They were even in the Zoo TV show."

Stage designer a jeho tým má už jasnou představu, jak to bude fungovat a jak to zaranžovat tak, aby to nebylo žádné nostalgické tour. Musí ale předtím slyšet skupinu a živé provedení písniček z The Joshua Tree: "Clearly The Joshua Tree is about an hour long and the show needs to be almost twice that length. Part of the reason I can't say is we won't know until we hear them play it. I think we have a great strategy, a really solid way of doing it without it being a classic-album nostalgia show, but we just won't know until we hear them play it."
